Welcoming Accepted Students during Presidential Scholars Weekend

This past weekend Lipscomb had the opportunity to host students who have shown exceptional academic performances. These prospective students are invited to spend a weekend on campus. During the weekend students and parents meet with faculty, attend informative sessions and attend an event at the Music City Hall of Fame. During the weekend, students and parents attend a session with their major of interest.
The College of Leadership & Public Service (CLPS) gathered over thirty prospective students and parents who have expressed interest in our programs in the Fred Gray Center. CLPS houses undergraduate degree programs in Law, Justice and Society (LJS) and Environmental and Sustainability Sciences (ESS).
The session was introduced by two faculty members, Scott Bledsoe and Emily Stutzman, but ultimately led by a panel of undergraduate students. Camryn Given, LJS Senior, opened the panel by discussing her senior research project findings. Given studies on the correlation between food consumption habits and voting preferences.
Next Mitchell Roberts, an LJS sophomore, presented his closing argument from Mock Trial. The Lipscomb Mock Trial team traveled to St. Louis last month for their first American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) competition.
ESS senior, Mattie Boles, rounded out the student presentations. Her senior research project focused on urban development which drove her to land her current internship. Boles works at Greater Nashville Regional Council (GNRC) as the Community and Regional Planning intern.
After student presentations, the rest of the time was used to answer questions from the prospective students and parents. The panel was made up of; Mitchell Roberts (LJS Sophomore), Camryn Given (LJS Senior), Lineth Gonzalez (LJS Sophomore), Keagan Pendergrass (LJS Junior), Joey Shulam (LJS Sophomore), Ashlyn Korpack (ESS Senior), and Mattie Boles (ESS Senior).
Students discussed class trips to Europe, Washington D.C., St. Louis, and Lexington. Panelists expanded on the sustainability and law opportunities in Nashville. ESS, LJS and Urban Studies students are granted the ability to take courses amongst the different disciplines and shared ways those courses built interests that are not in their degree plans. They also fielded questions about classes, professors, and student life.
