Lipscomb University’s Department of Theatre will wrap up its 2015-16 theater season with its production of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, April 8-16, in Collins Alumni Auditorium, based on the comic strip “Peanuts” by Charles M. Schulz.

Directed by Kari Smith, adjunct faculty for Lipscomb’s Department of Theatre, this show brings together people of all ages to celebrate the timeless story of Charlie Brown.

This family-friendly production incorporates all of the beloved quirks and characters from the comic brought to life with the lessons of friendship all along the way.

“We always look for a family theater offering for our season, and this show is perfect for that,” said Smith. “We bring school groups in for field trips and always have a great response from the community from these kinds of shows.

“The musical is fun, high energy and full of the familiar Peanuts characters that so many generations have grown up with. The music and dancing is wonderful, and the show is such a feel-good and nostalgic musical.”

The show also features famous scenes from days in the life of Charlie Brown.

“Charlie Brown tries to fly his kite, Lucy steals Linus's blanket, Schroeder plays his piano and Snoopy battles the Red Baron,” said Smith. “The new things the musical brings include the great music and dancing, fun new situations and the way the story as a whole is tied together.”

Bethany Rowland, sophomore and theater directing major, works as an assistant stage manager for the show and says this experience has opened her eyes to the nuances of performance.

“This is my first time working as a stage manager,” Rowland said. “I am usually performing, but working behind the curtain for this production has been so rewarding.

“It is cool so see how each actor perfectly portrays their character. To take the iconic dance moves the Peanuts do or the poses they have and incorporate them into the production makes the play feel so authentic to the original characters. Haley Pearson, who plays Lucy, will stand in a particular way that will make the audience say, ‘that is so Lucy!’ it is almost magical.”
