Works by J.J. Sneed, Michael Shane Neal highlight weekend of art events

On the most romantic day of the year, Saturday, Feb. 14, the public is invited to enjoy a full day of free art activities as David Lipscomb Campus Schools presents The Art Event at Lipscomb and Lipscomb University hosts an exhibit by Michael Shane Neal and a presentation on the artist’s perspective.

The Art Event at Lipscomb

Friday, Feb. 13, 5 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Saturday Feb. 14, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Sunday Feb. 15, 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

For three days, Feb. 13-15, the gymnasium at David Lipscomb Campus School will be transformed into an art gallery, housing the creations of 42 Southeastern artists for the fifth annual Art Event at Lipscomb, a fine art sale and exhibit. A portion of the Art Event proceeds will benefit the David Lipscomb Campus School annual fund, which provides additional resources for school programs and facilities for David Lipscomb students.  
 
Among the forty-two artists included in this year’s show are David Arms, Streater Spencer, Paige Morehead, Jeff Jamison, Jacqueline Saporiti, Kim Barrick and Nashville’s J.J. Sneed.
 
The sale will begin Friday, Feb. 13, from 5 to 9 p.m. along with a silent auction of Sneed’s, “The Party,” along with works from several well-known Nashville artists. Refreshments will be served and live music will add to the festivities. The sale will continue Saturday, Feb. 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 15, from 1 to 5 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Michael Shane Neal Art Exhibit & Presentation

Michael Shane Neal (’91), Lipscomb’s 2008 Young Alumnus of the Year and Grand Prize Winner of the 2001 Portrait Society of America International Portrait Competition, will display some of his work for public viewing at the Michael Shane Neal Art Exhibit & Presentation. 
 
At 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, Neal will give a presentation discussing the life of a modern portrait painter, how he approaches his work and some of the fascinating people he has had the honor of painting including Sandra Day O'Connor, Senator Bill Frist, Robert C. Byrd and Arlen Specter.  A question and answer session will follow the presentation. Stop by and enjoy paintings from one of The Artist’s Magazine’s top 20 rising stars in the world of art.
