This spring, Lipscomb’s Department of Visual Arts will revive its Visiting Artist Program with nationally influential artists Glexis Novoa and Nicholas Felton.

Novoa, a Cuban artist who has attained international recognition for his site-specific wall drawings around the world, will speak at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 30 in Ward Hall.

Born in Cuba in 1964, Novoa spends half his time working in Cuba and half in Miami. Since the late 1980s, he has produced art in many different media, including painting, performance, installation and, most recently, graphite drawings—the material that has become his trademark.

Novoa’s lecture will be filmed by the Department of Cinematic Arts and made available online for other art educators to enjoy. He will also lead a workshop for Lipscomb’s art students on Tuesday, Jan. 31.

Felton, an infographic designer who achieved fame within the field by creating highly detailed annual reports of his own life, will speak on March 9 at 6:30 p.m. in Ward Hall.

Known for being a co-founder of Daytum.com, Felton was also a member of the product design team at Facebook and is credited for influencing the design of Facebook’s current timeline format. His work has been profiled in publications including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Wired and Good Magazine, and in 2013, Fast Company magazine named him among the 50 most influential designers in America.

Lectures by Felton, Novoa and Disney animator Andreas Deja, who visited campus this past November, represent an effort by the department to provide a wide diversity of artistic voices for Lipscomb students in every aspect of visual arts.

Housed in the College of Entertainment & the Arts, the Visiting Artist Program exists to educate and foster a greater understanding and appreciation of contemporary art through critical discourse.
