Update on campus incident Friday morning

Friday, March 9, 3:15 p.m.

At about 3:30 a.m. this morning, High Rise residence hall was evacuated as a result of a small amount of smoke generated from a faulty underground electrical line running between High Rise and the main power source. As a precaution students were evacuated. They returned safely to the dorm at about 5:30 a.m. once the source of the issue was identified as being well outside the building.

Work to repair the line began at about 5 a.m. this morning. Emergency generators for affected areas are in place and power has been restored to these areas including High Rise. At this point, it is not known if this is related to yesterday’s water line incident. Outside contractors and university officials continue to thoroughly review any lingering utility issues that might be related.
