Three Lipscomb seniors to participate in national Q Union event

Lacey Klotz |

On Thursday, Oct. 13, Lipscomb University will join with 10 other universities across the nation to present Q Union 2016, a two-hour event that discusses big issues through the lens of faith, from 7 to 9 p.m. in Shamblin Theatre. This event is open to Lipscomb students only.

In the midst of a controversial election, rising racial tension and a nation divided, this event, hosed by Lipscomb’s Office of Campus Ministry and The Joshua Project, will educate students on how they can bring hope and leadership to their campuses in a critical moment for America.

This year’s theme is "Engaging our Divided Nation," and there will be three nationally broadcast Q-talks featuring Ravi Zacharias, who will speak on “Responding in our Divided Moment;” Kirsten Powers and Ross Douthat, who will both speak on “How Christians Should Think About Voting;” and Lecrae, who will be speaking about “Race, Righteous Anger and Resolution.”

There will also be three student-led talks facilitated by Lipscomb students Adrianna Cannone, a senior biology major; Angad Madra, a senior business major; and Evan Loechelt, a senior exercise science major.

Loechelt, who will be leading a discussion on how pornography specifically affects intimacy, says it is difficult topics like these that students may never have the platform to discuss, but is very beneficial when looked at through a Christian lens.

“The mission behind what Q Union stands for is providing a platform for Christians to engage questions that are imperative to our callings to be ‘salt and light,’” said Loechelt. I think that bringing this topic more into the light, especially in the church, is vital in presenting more ways in order to help combat the effects of it.”

Loechelt says he feels this event is important for his generation to engage in, and encourages all Lipscomb students to attend.

“I think Lipscomb students have a wonderful opportunity to come to an event such as Q Union because these are issues that we as a community may be facing now or in the future and they are ones that we need to begin talking about,” he said. “Adrianna, Angad and I will be given a platform to address these issues and I hope it will help others in the audience relate to us because they have seen us on campus or have personal relationships with us.”

The national broadcasts will also air at Gordon University, Gonzaga University, University of Missouri, Northwest University, Northwestern College, Ohio Christian University, Palm Beach Atlantic University, Point University, Regent University and Taylor University.
