Tennessean praises Lipscomb Theatre, Circle Players' <em>Rabbit Hole</em>

The Lipscomb Department of Theatre and Circle Player’s present their first joint production of the 2013-14 theater season: The Pulitzer Prize-winning Rabbit Hole, by David Lindsay-Abaire.
The production will star Lipscomb’s own theatre department chair Mike Fernandez, and it is directed by Lipscomb Theatre alumna Whitney Vaughn. The performance will be held in Lipscomb’s University Theatre.
In “Rabbit Hole,” Becca and Howie Corbett have everything a family could want, until a life-shattering accident turns their world upside down and leaves the couple drifting perilously apart.
“Rabbit Hole” was nominated for several 2006 Tony Awards, and lead actress Cynthia Nixon won for her portrayal of Becca. In 2010, the play was adapted into a movie which earned Nicole Kidman an Oscar® nomination for best actress.
“Rabbit Hole” is the first of two joint productions presented by Lipscomb and Circle Players, a longtime community theater icon in Middle Tennessee. Sharing facilities and resources, the two theater organizations are able to bring more variety to the playbill and top-quality local performers to work with stand-out student thespians.

Mike Fernandez (Howie Corbett)
As the chair of Lipscomb’s theatre department for the past five years, Mike normally focuses on directing and playwriting. This performance is his Circle Players’ debut. At the university, he has directed “Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat,” “Ragtime,” “Doubt,” “Guys and Dolls,” and “Red,” for the Blackbird Theater, which earned him a First Night Award for best director of 2012.
Beth Henderson (Becca Corbett)
Henderson’s Nashville area theater roles include a Warhol Girl and Nixon’s secretary in “All the King’s Women,” “Eleanor in The Desperate Hours,” Ms. Jordan in “Heaven Can Wait,” Kate in “Brighton Beach Memoirs” and Dilber in “A Christmas Carol.”
Wesley Paine (Nat)
Paine is a long-standing member of Nashville community theater for the past 30 years. She is a founding member of John Holleman and Co., a troupe that specializes in mask work. Her favorite roles include Mrs. Bennet in “Pride and Prejudice,” Claree in “Steel Magnolias” and Amanda in “The Glass Menagerie.” She also serves as the director of Nashville’s Parthenon.
Whitney Vaughn (Director)
Vaughn is an award-winning playwright and actress and a graduate of Lipscomb University. She starred as Tracy Turnblad in Lipscomb's production of “Hairspray,” which won a First Night award for best musical of 2011, and in the Circle Players’ production of “Hairspray,” which won the Circle Award for best show. Other First Night Honors include Most Promising Actor and Top 11 of 2011--Actress in a Musical. She will next be on stage as Madame Thenardier in Lipscomb's production of “Les Misérables” in November.
