Tau Phi Cowboy Show showcases student talent, benefits Room in the Inn

The 38th annual Tau Phi Cowboy Show is coming to the Mother Maybelle Carter Stage in Lipscomb University’s Collins Alumni Auditorium Saturday, Oct. 7.
The show begins at 7 p.m. and features country music hits from today as well as a few classics. It is hosted and performed by the members of Lipscomb University’s Tau Phi men’s social club along with a few other guest musicians and vocalists. In this year’s production, students will cover popular artists such as Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood, and several more. Classic songs from groups such as the Eagles and Brooks and Dunn will also be featured in the show.
Tickets are $10, and all seats are general admission. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance here. T-shirts will be on sale for $15 and posters will be on sale for $3 on the night of the show. Proceeds will benefit the Room in the Inn shelter located in the Student Activities Center on the Lipscomb campus during the winter months. (Learn more about Lipscomb's Room in the Inn shelter.)
Pat Flynn (’92), Nashville singer/songwriter and producer, and his band will return to lead the show for the 20th year. Flynn has been in the music industry for over 25 years and has worked on many CMA and Grammy award-winning projects such as Randy Travis’ Rise and Shine album and Lee Ann Womak’s “I Hope You Dance.” Flynn wrote Garth Brooks’ hit single, “Do What You Gotta Do,” and performed numerous hit songs as a member of the highly acclaimed bluegrass band New Grass Revival.
Hunter Taylor, a junior majoring in contemporary music and music production, is directing this year’s show. Assistant directors are Jonathon Flatt and Amy Hurd.
“The men of Tau Phi have successfully serenaded generations of people attending the Cowboy Show. Hopefully, we will be able to do the same thing this year,” said Taylor. “There will be a lot of talented students performing including some very talented female singers as well as members of Tau Phi. It is Tau Phi’s biggest philanthropy event, and a guaranteed good time, all in all. I hope to see a lot of people not only from the Lipscomb community here but also from around Nashville.”
Over the years the show has evolved from a small production to a much larger, professional production. In the early days of the show, members of the club comprised the band and the event was held outside on the steps of Collins Alumni Auditorium in Bison Square.
