Summer Celebration kicks off today, June 28, and ends with Bison Block Party on June 30

Each year, thousands of Christians from across the nation gather on Lipscomb University’s campus for Summer Celebration, a three-day community lectureship filled with faith, fellowship and fun. This year, the event will take place on campus June 28-30, and is both free and open to the public.

The theme for 2017 is “A Unifying Core: The Message of Romans,” and will feature guest hundreds of lectures, keynote sessions, worship and fellowship opportunities as well as a the Bison Block Party, a free community event that will feature a free presentation of the Tokens Show and a free fireworks display on Friday, June 30 at 5:30 p.m. in the Allen Arena Mall.

“We are excited to have the community join us for a special Summer Celebration as spiritual leaders, individuals and families from across the country will gather to study significant texts from Romans and to discuss critical issues that impact congregational life, the culture wars and future unity among believers in a post-Christian world,” said Scott Sager, vice president of church services.

A special enVision 2017: Pre-seminar Event titled “21st Century Apologetics: Battling for Faith in a Time of Unbelief” was led by Rubel Shelly, professor of Bible at Lipscomb, and Mark Lanier (’81), Lipscomb alumnus and a trial lawyer for The Lanier Law Firm, and kicked off Summer Celebration this morning from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The lectureship will also feature both a children’s program and an Infiniti program for teens, along with special late night musical performances by George Pendergrass and Rolando Diaz, as well as Kassidy Chambers, Brothers Parker, Antowan White, The Erabellas, Courtney Warner.

Summer Celebration 2017 will end with the Bison Block Party, a free community event on Friday, June 30. Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with the inflatable games and food vendors. The Tokens Show, which is hosted by Lipscomb’s Lee Camp, professor of theology and ethics at Lipscomb, and will feature musical guests Buddy Greene, Odessa Settles, Andrew Peterson, Andy Gullahorn and Scott Mulvahill, will begin at 7 p.m. followed by fireworks at 9 p.m. Activities will take place in the Allen Arena Mall area.
