Students, employees spend Friday serving the community

 |

For the fourth consecutive year, Lipscomb University students, faculty and staff joined together to serve the Nashville community for Spring Service Day on Friday. Groups went to locations throughout Nashville and the surrounding area to serve their community.

“Service Day is an incredible chance for Lipscomb students, faculty, and staff to set aside their usual schedules for a day, and instead give of themselves to our neighbors in the Nashville area,” said Hope Miller, coordinator of Service Day.

Approximately 600 students and employees volunteered to work in more than 30 locations this year.

“We believe this is something we need to do because we are trying to be the visible presence of Christ in our community. We’re just doing what we would want others do to for us if we were in a similar situation. We want to serve our community and to help equip students to be servants for life. Some students already have a passion for service. For others, opportunities like this can plant a seed of service that will be nurtured for a lifetime,” said Scott McDowell, associate provost for student development and dean of students.

Service locations included AGAPE, Carestone Assisted Living, Churches of Christ Disaster Relief, Feed America First, Habitat for Humanity, the Humane Society, Matthew 25, Morningside at Belmont, the Nashville Rescue Mission, the Ronald McDonald House and Youth Encouragement Services among others.
