Student variety show Singarama hits Otter Creek stage April 4

Singarama will be performed off-campus this year to allow completion of the renovation of the Willard Collins Alumni Auditorium, part of an overall renovation of the entire A.M. Burton Building. Alumni Auditorium will open again this spring with a larger stage, new seats and refurbished interiors.
Each year, an overall theme is chosen and from that central theme, three separate student groups write, produce, and choreograph their own show. Past audiences have been treated to a variety of musical styles from pop and country hits to gospel and jazz standards. The groups are judged at each performance on a number of different criteria and an overall winner is announced at the final show.
This year’s theme, “A Play on Words” has inspired shows about a treasure-hunting couple who fall in with pirates, performing arts students who have a run-in with celebrity musicians of the past decades, and a coming-of-age tale set in a three-ring circus.
Millie Norwood, a senior math education major from Lawrenceburg, Tenn., and Joe Woodfin, a Bibical studies major from South Pittsburg, Tenn., are the student coordinators for Singarama 2008.
The directors of this year’s performances are:
Jessie Strange, a senior biology major from Huntsville, Ala., is director of Since.
Tyler Browning, a senior management major from Madison, Tenn., is the director of Cents.
Erin Pearl, a senior English education major from Nashville, is the director of Sense.
