Two teams of Lipscomb University College of Business students won second and third place at the Ethics in Action Student Video Competition, announced by the Student Center for the Public Trust (SCPT) April 21 at Lipscomb’s Shamblin Theatre. Officials presented participants with cash prizes for the best portrayal of Ethics in Action.

Winners were:
Members of third place winners Team Classy with NASBA officials at the awards announcement.
In addition to the above winners, submissions were also received from teams representing Belmont University and Tennessee State University.

“This competition – which was novel in concept – provided us with a fresh perspective on how our future leaders see, interpret and portray ethics and ethical issues of today,” said David Costello, president of NASBA’s Center for Public Trust (CPT). “The submissions themselves are exciting and innovative in approach and will assist us in conveying what Ethics in Action really means to college and university students.”

Lipscomb’s SCPT chapter was the first established in the nation in November 2009, and the campus produced five teams who entered the video competition, requiring students to use creativity and originality to educate on various aspects of leadership, ethics and business.

“One of CPT’s greatest benefits is that the organization was created to restore trust in the accounting profession and business world through innovative and thoughtful programs that promote ethics, ethical behavior and leadership,” said Lisa Axisa, Executive Director of the Center for the Public Trust, who leads the effort to establish student chapters at colleges and universities.

“I’m pleased that CPT has committed to the development of students who will be the conduits to advance ethical practices in organizations.” Axisa said SCPT will continue to “provide interactive environments where ethical behaviors and ideas can flourish.”
The video Competition provided students with an opportunity to develop a real awareness of ethical issues.  Focus on ethics allows students to build a moral and ethical foundation for all future endeavors and create a better, more thoughtful world.

According to Axisa, the CPT is one of a few business-led organizations that is actively promoting student chapters on campuses to promote ethical behavior through innovative programming.
