Singarama 2009 put a brand on excitement in Collins Auditorium

Janel Shoun |

“Branded,” was the theme for this year’s Singarama, Lipscomb University’s annual student variety show featuring three mini-musicals. All shows are student-directed, and students also host the evening with a variety of musical interludes.

In keeping with the theme, this year’s shows featured titles borrowed from familiar product slogans:

“Can You Hear Me Now?”
Directed by Sabrina Clayton
Winner of the Theme Award

“The Best Part of Waking Up”
Directed by Katie Callis
Winner of the Staging Award and
the Singarama Sweepstakes Award

“Don’t Leave Home Without It.”
Directed by Ashley Mize
Winner of the the Music Award

Each year, an overall theme is chosen and from that central theme, three separate student groups write, produce, and choreograph their own show. Past audiences have been treated to a variety of musical styles from pop and country hits to gospel and jazz standards. The groups are judged at each performance on a number of different criteria and an overall winner is announced at the final show.
