Show your Lipscomb pride by wearing purple this Friday for national College Colors Day

This Friday students, employees, alumni and friends are encouraged to wear purple to show their Lipscomb pride by wearing purple for National College Colors Day.

Lipscomb University’s alumni association, athletics programs and dining services are partnering to celebrate this national event in the Lipscomb community.

“Wearing school colors is just one way the community can show pride in the institution,” said Rhonda Minton, director of alumni programs. “This is an opportunity for students, employees, alumni and others to support Lipscomb no matter where they live or work and be a part of this community.”

College Colors Day is an annual celebration dedicated to promoting the traditions and spirit that embody the college experience by encouraging fans across America to wear their favorite college or university apparel throughout the day on Aug. 31.

The College Colors Day comes at an opportune time for Lipscomb to proudly showcase its school colors. Lipscomb is hosting a volleyball invitational and a 7 p.m. women’s soccer game against University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. Lipscomb’s volleyball team faces Appalachian State at 12:30 p.m. and SEC newcomer Missouri at 7:30 p.m.

“Since we will have at least four other universities on our campus, Lipscomb needs to ‘Be True To Your School’ by being ‘purpled out,” said Garner Goode, director of athletic marketing and promotions.

Other activities include free purple sno-cones and cotton candy from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in front of Allen Bell Tower (while supplies last) for those wearing purple. T-shirt giveaways for students will also be part of game festivities at the volleyball and soccer matches.

In addition to wearing purple to work or class, Minton said the community can participate in national College Colors Day in a variety of additional ways including:

  • Sharing pics of themselves and friends wearing purple on the university Facebook page and Twitter (@LipscombUniversity, @LipscombAlumni) accounts;
  • Attending the soccer and volleyball games and wearing purple to support the Lipscomb teams;
  • Capture the Spirit! Show us what you think Lipscomb spirit is with a photo and caption uploaded to the Lipscomb Facebook page!
