Service with style: A.L.L. members have sight set on Schermerhorn

The Davidson/Williamson County chapter of the Associated Ladies for Lipscomb (A.L.L.) has lots of surprises ready for the evening of October 25, 2007. They have reserved Nashville’s new Schermerhorn Symphony Center to celebrate the 25th anniversary of A.L.L. This gala will begin with tours of the center and will be followed by an elegant seated dinner.  All entertainment for the evening will be provided by Lipscomb musicians. Surprises will be scattered throughout the evening.

A.L.L. members know how to plan an evening with style. But the gala will be about much more than dinner and entertainment. This October evening will be held as a service to current and future Lipscomb students. The A.L.L. members plan to underwrite the entire 25th Anniversary Gala with local sponsorships so all proceeds from ticket sales will directly benefit student scholarships.  The A.L.L. volunteers will be asked to assist with sponsorships and ticket sales.  All chapters of A.L.L. will pull together in the 25th Anniversary celebration.  The overall goal for the silver anniversary will be to grow the scholarship endowment to $1 million.  They are only about $114,000 away.

In 2007, Leanne Hall (’92) will be the chapter president responsible for pulling together the details for the gala. “I have been a member of A.L.L. since around 1996,” Hall states. “I have gotten to see the positive impact the A.L.L. scholarships have had on the students who receive them and couldn’t have come to Lipscomb otherwise. Our organization is about much more than luncheons and teas and galas. It’s all about supporting Christian education.”

Current co-presidents Kimberly Bean (’87) and Cayce Terry (’92) have served together for two years. Attending and supporting Lipscomb University runs in both of their families. Bean’s father attended Lipscomb in the 50s and her mother joined A.L.L. as a founding member of the Davidson county chapter. Her sisters are also Lipscomb alumni.

Terry states, “I joined A.L.L. before I realized what it was. My grandmother was in the Williamson County chapter. She went to Lipscomb when it was the Nashville Bible College. My mother also went when it was known as David Lipscomb College.” Terry continues, “When I joined A.L.L., I kept telling people to let me know if they needed any help. Well, I ended up as co-president. It’s important to me to help bring students to Lipscomb who have a desire to study in a Christian school but may not be financially able to get here without assistance.”

Bean adds, “In my role, I want to encourage people from my class and later classes to give back now at this point in their life. It’s never too early in your life to give back to help support our students.”

Sandra Hood, a 1986 Lipscomb University graduate and current A.L.L. director, knows the importance of the work each chapter does toward boosting the scholarship endowment. The current presidents are: Suzanne Bobo (Bedford County/Shelbyville); Judy Gunn (Benton, Ky.); Ann Wolfe (Bowling Green, Ky.);  Nancy Bailey and  Ginger Jordon (Chattanooga); Lisa Cooper (Dickson); Diane Whitaker (Guntersville, Ala.); Libby Jones (Huntsville, Ala.); Marsha Kohring (Knoxville); Carolyn Bingham (Lewisburg); and Joanne Coggin (Rutherford County).

They work together to make scholarships possible for generations of Lipscomb students. They serve with style.
