Two Lipscomb student nurses were honored for their work after completing the VESNIP (Vanderbilt Experience: Student Nurse Internship Program) this past summer.
VESNIP, a program of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, allows student nurses to get 280 clinical hours during the summer by rotating through various units at Vanderbilt including psychology, obstetrics, pediatrics, the emergency room and the operating room.
McCall Mannel, a senior from St. Louis, received the Credo Award for outstanding student in the acute care track, which includes the most VESNIP participants. Chris Hale, a senior from Gallatin, received the Florence Nightingale award for outstanding student in the entire program.
The Credo Award is given to the student nurse who communicated effectively with patients and their families, was a team player, was always eager to learn, demonstrated patience and truly made not only the patients, but their families the highest priority when providing care.
The Florence Nightingale Award was given to the student nurse who demonstrated all the qualities outlined for the Credo Award in addition to demonstrating the utmost of professionalism in nursing.
VESNIP participants are selected from current nursing students from area schools such as Austin Peay State University, Belmont University, Cumberland University, Western Kentucky University and Lipscomb. They work one-on-one with a Vanderbilt preceptor in various areas of the hospital which mirror the tracks and unit rotation in a nurse residency program.
Lipscomb had 12 students who were selected to participate in six clinical tracks during the six-week program in May and June.
