Student pharmacists won awards, served on committees, and gave a performance at national meeting

Lipscomb’s student chapter of the American Pharmacists Association was awarded national second runner-up honors for both the 2016-17 Operation Immunization National Award and the Division AAA Chapter Achievement Award at the APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition in Nashville, March 16–19.

Lipscomb student pharmacists also served at the association meeting on the national level and were selected to give a musical performance at the meeting.

Lipscomb’s student chapter was awarded second runner-up for the Operation Immunization National Award in recognition of year-long efforts such as administering thousands of immunizations; hosting various flu clinics, including a drive-up clinic on campus and holding innovative informational events like a Pokémon Go event to raise awareness on the importance of vaccines and an HPV awareness campaign at a local high school.

The second runner-up honors for the Division AAA Chapter Achievement Award recognized the chapter’s overall accomplishments including high membership rates, enacting new initiatives, recruiting the chapter’s first international exchange student and continuing to keep students and the community engaged.

Second-year student pharmacist Kyle Owens, the chapter’s patient care vice president, was selected to sing at the national meeting after competing with hundreds of students in an online social media challenge to discover talented student pharmacists. He gave an upbeat performance that had the whole crown clapping.

Third-year student pharmacist Kelci Rosenzweig, current chapter president and former region three Midyear Regional Meeting Coordinator, was selected to serve on the national nominating committee. This committee consists of one student representative from each of the eight regions, a chair and an immediate past national officer. In this role, they conduct interviews of candidates running for a national position with APhA-ASP and determined the slate of candidates to be voted on at the meeting.
