School of Music presents Grammy-nominated wind quintet Imani Winds March 5

Lipscomb University’s School of Music Artist Series presents the Grammy-nominated wind quintet Imani Winds at Lipscomb’s Ward Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 5.
Tickets for the concert are $20 for adults and $10 for students and can be purchased here or by calling the Lipscomb Box Office at 615-966-7075.
“Imani Winds is known for its adventurous programming that emphasizes African, Latin American and American influences,” said Steven Rhodes, director of instrumental ensembles. “The quintet will provide our students the opportunity to hear a performance that is not regularly heard on our campus.”
Praised by the Philadelphia Inquirer as "what triumph sounds like," Imani Winds has established itself as one of the most successful chamber music ensembles in the United States. Since 1997, the quintet has taken a unique path, carving out a distinct presence in the classical music world with its dynamic playing, culturally poignant programming, adventurous collaborations and inspirational outreach programs.
Armed with a deep commitment to creating new work, the group is enriching the traditional wind quintet repertoire while intentionally bridging European, American, African and Latin American traditions.
Imani Winds enjoys frequent national attention that has included features on NPR’s All Things Considered, APM's Saint Paul Sunday and Performance Today and BBC’s/ PRI’s The World, as well as frequent coverage in newspapers such as The New York Times and Wall Street Journal.
Imani Winds have five releases on E1 Music that include their 2006 Grammy Award nominated recording entitled The Classical Underground.
