Lipscomb University’s School of Executive Education is accepting applications for the Certificate in Accountancy Program (CAP) for the 2010 class, John Lowry, assistant dean for the School of Executive Education, recently announced.

The CAP is an accelerated course of study designed to prepare the next generation of accountants. Through CAP, students can satisfy the accounting education requirements for the CPA exam or obtain leveling courses for Master of Accountancy programs.

“The demand for accountants is on the rise. According to the Bureau of Labor, the job market for accountants and auditors is expected to grow faster than the average for all other occupations. The average salary for a CAP is about $61,480. The demand combined with the salary makes accounting an ideal career to enter during a tough economy. Through the CAP program, no matter what your career or educational background, you will be prepared to take the next step to a career in accounting,” said Lowry.

Through the CAP program, students can complete seven undergraduate courses in 13 weeks, satisfy the 24 units of accounting education required to sit for the CPA exam or complete leveling courses for Master of Accountancy programs. The program is designed for recent graduates interested in pursuing a career in accounting, professionals seeking career enhancement through advanced accounting knowledge and skills, individuals experiencing a career change and future Master of Accountancy students needing accelerated leveling courses.

CAP runs from May 24 through August 19, 2010. Classes will meet Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until noon in the Swang Center on the campus of Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. Students should anticipate four to six hours daily of outside class study. Students are strongly encouraged to limit all non-academic activity while enrolled in CAP. April 16 is the application deadline. Students applying for admission must have completed a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university by May 2010.

Lipscomb University’s School of Executive Education consists of non-degree programs designed to enhance the professional skills and knowledge base of business leaders. Through courses and certificate programs, the School of Executive Education provides interactive learning experiences, offers engaging dialogue, exposes participants to leading thinkers and practitioners and elevates skills required to achieve new levels of success.
