Reclaim Tomorrow center offers advice from local job recruiters in June

A recruiter from The Walt Disney Company, a vice president of a construction management firm and human resource officers from various companies are on the June schedule of speakers at the Lipscomb Professional Resource Center, Lipscomb University’s career resource center for the community.

As unemployment continues to rise and the economy becomes more volatile, the need for helpful and efficient resources is greater than ever.

The Reclaim Tomorrow center allows the increasing number of professionals facing career transitions to personally converse with experts they could not normally receive access to, said Melissa Lowry, the director of Reclaim Tomorrow. If a job-seeker was to contact some of these speakers on their own, they would generally not be able to get through, but by coming to the resource center, the experts are available and willing to give their advice and personal services, she said.

One of the greatest services the center provides is its one-on-one interaction and counseling with expert professionals, who volunteer their time each month to provide career counsel, resume advice and offer networking suggestions. For the month of June, the line-up of guest speakers is packed with high-level executives, such as Wayne Hampton, a recruiter for Walt Disney.

In April Lipscomb University’s College of Business established the Reclaim Tomorrow program to provide relevant, personal advice, encouragement and networking contacts from experienced human resources and business professionals free of charge.

Operating out of the McQuiddy office complex on campus (adjacent to Allen Arena), the center is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to noon.

“I was about a month into my job search when I saw an article in my church bulletin about the Professional Resource Center,” said Kelli Bratton, a 26 year-old Lipscomb graduate who recently lost her job as a social worker. “I felt comfortable there and they were so gracious in answering the questions I had.”
