Presidential politics, exercise for the aging and classic cars among the topics for Lifelong Learning 2013

The first 100 days of President Obama’s second term, the works of Eudora Welty, a class taught by Lipscomb President Randy Lowry and a trip to see the Emancipation Proclamation are among the exciting classes offered by the Lifelong Learning Program this semester.
President Lowry will be teaching a course in his academic specialty – conflict management and negotiation, while former President Jimmy Carter staffer Linda Peek Schacht will teach a course analyzing the first 100 days of President Barack Obama’s second term in office.
Locals can also sign up to see an impressive local collection of classic cars, join the world of Apple® users, get some valuable exercise in the two-part Strong for Life classes, study with a retired member of the U.S. Army Counterintelligence Corps or hear from five women who made Nashville history.
Literature, history, faith, art, politics and health are all among the topics the Lifelong Learning Program brings to the public in an informal, noncompetitive environment each year. The program offers adults of all ages an opportunity to expand knowledge and explore new ideas. Learning occurs in a pleasant social atmosphere in classes with one’s peers. There are no exams and no grades or credits. There is no previous educational requirement. Rather, the opportunity exists to interact with friends old and new. This is a time when you may fulfill many of your dreams.
Spring session begins in February with two, five-week sessions ending in May. The classes meet for one and a half hours in the daytime once a week for five weeks.
