Two of Lipscomb University’s academic programs made national headlines on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

Several fourth-year students in the College of Pharmacy are each spending a portion of their month-long advanced pharmacy practice experiences developing curriculum and co-teaching a pharmacy profession, practice and science class held at Nashville’s John Overton High School Academy of Health Sciences, where students gain real-world experience through project-based learning.

National Public Radio reporter, Emily Siner, featured Lipscomb’s program in a story that aired on the Tuesday, Feb. 24 edition of All Things Considered, one of the most listened-to, afternoon drives-times news radio programs in the country. Click here to listen.

Lipscomb University’s new and innovative competency-based program is quickly gaining a reputation as a national leader. On Wednesday, Feb. 25, the program was featured by Time Magazine and the Hechinger Report, which covers innovation in education.

The article features student Linda McCampbell, who enrolled at Lipscomb after going through the College of Professional Studies’ CORE (Customized, Outcome-based, Relevant, Evaluation) assessment program. CORE measures 15 competencies on a badge system. This competency-based assessment and development program evaluates attributes such as life and professional experiences, as well as personal and behavioral skills, for performance goals, programs and outcomes.

CORE competency credits may then be applied toward a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Organizational Leadership degree or any other adult degree offering. McCampbell earned 30 credits through the CORE assessment center. With those credits she is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in integrated studies with concentrations in aging and nutrition.
