Pat Boone to perform at Lipscomb University Nov. 4

It's a homecoming for a hometown boy as Lipscomb University welcomes alumnus Pat Boone in concert Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Collins Alumni Auditorium, 3901 Granny White Pike, Nashville. Reserved seat tickets are $20 and are available through Ticketmaster or at the Arena Box Office at Lipscomb University. A VIP ticket package is also available by calling (615) 279-7070. For $100, patrons will receive two premium seating tickets and access to a post-concert reception with Boone. The concert is being sponsored by Lipscomb University's Students for International Peace and Justice. Proceeds will be used to provide aid to landmine victims in Iraq. "The students have asked me to do a concert, including a lot of songs that were big hits before they were born," said Boone. "I'm happy to oblige, amazed that they have asked, and am bringing my own touring musicians to do on the Lipscomb campus what I've been doing all around the country in the last few weeks." Boone graduated from David Lipscomb High School in 1952 and attended college at Lipscomb University before leaving to focus on his burgeoning singing career. Boone went on to sell more records than any other artist in the 1950s with the exception of Elvis Presley. He has sold more than 45 million records with 18 songs being charted in the top 10. Ranked in the top three "Top 40 Recording Artists of the Rock 'n' Roll Era", Boone's platinum recording "Love Letters in the Sand" stayed on the charts for 34 consecutive weeks. Boone is also an accomplished actor. He has starred in 15 films, including "Journey to the Center of the Earth", "State Fair" and "April Love." The concert is being held in conjunction with Lipscomb University's prestigious "Avalon Awards for Creative Excellence" where Boone will be one of four recipients of the award on Nov. 3. "When I was a student at Lipscomb High, and then for a year in the college, I was often told by teachers, 'Some day you'll look back on these years at Lipscomb, and feel they were the best years of your life,' " said Boone. "Well, I'm looking back, and I have to admit that they were wonderful years, years in which I was influenced greatly by dedicated teachers, during which time I met my wife-to-be, Shirley Foley, lettered in baseball, basketball and tennis, and was eventually student body president. What's not to like? I'm enthusiastically looking forward to this homecoming." Boone's multimedia, multi-faceted live show will feature an array of musical genres ranging from pop and country to gospel and patriotic favorites.
