Lipscomb University’s College of Professional Studies Pace Pro Seminar Series presents Tennessee Commissioner of Education Candice McQueen on Wednesday, Jan. 24. McQueen will discuss the topic “How to Create and Maintain Spheres of Influence.” The seminar begins at 6 p.m. in the Ezell Center Chapel, is located on the second floor of Lipscomb’s Ezell Center.
McQueen will share her experiences as a state leader, building effective leadership teams and ways to build your own skills and developing individual skills and others to achieve their goals.

As Tennessee’s commissioner of education, McQueen communicates and coordinates with several influencers that include the state legislature, state school board and community advocates.
McQueen was sworn in as Tennessee’s commissioner of education on Jan. 17, 2015. During her first year as commissioner, McQueen led a statewide effort to create a new strategic plan and vision for Tennessee schools called “Tennessee Succeeds.” The comprehensive plan provides aligned goals, priorities, and strategies focused on increasing postsecondary and career readiness for all of Tennessee’s 1 million students.
Prior to her appointment as Tennessee’s Commissioner of Education, McQueen served as the senior vice president and dean of the college of education at Lipscomb University. Under her leadership, Lipscomb’s college of education and teacher preparation program were consistently highlighted as one of the top teacher training programs for quality and effectiveness.
Pace Pro is a monthly seminar series hosted by Lipscomb’s College of Professional Studies that features prolific and prominent individuals in and around the Nashville Community.
