Sales and marketing professionals will soon have a new resource for developing and refining their knowledge and skills as Lipscomb University launches a new professional certificate program at its new downtown Spark location this September.

The Driving Sales Performance program is designed for sales representatives seeking a rigorous process to improve individual performance and sales managers who want to upgrade their skills and knowledge of the latest trends and best practices of leading sales teams and processes.

“According to Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce Workforce Studies, sales is one of the most in-demand occupations over the next several years,” said Joshua Hayden, director of executive programs for Spark. “Trends like accelerated pace of sales opportunities through social media in hyper-competitive industries make managing sales teams and processes vital to organizational growth. Yet many sales managers and representatives lack a rigorous process, proper metrics and integration of sales with other parts of their organization. The focus of this new program is to equip these professionals with competencies to enable them to become more effective managers and sales representatives.”

Through the program participants will build foundational skills, techniques and management capabilities to help them excel in their roles, said Hayden. The Driving Sales Performance professional certificate program focuses on eight key sales competencies: challenger selling; networking and prospecting; principles of motivation; sales planning and forecasting; negotiation in sales; emotional intelligence; coaching presentation skills; and building self-discipline and resilience.

“I am excited for the opportunity to be one of eight subject matter experts presenting at Lipscomb University’s Driving Sales Performance program this fall,” said John Boyens, co-founder and president of the Boyens Group. “If you’re in sales and looking to take your performance to the next level this program is for you. You’ll learn best practices for networking/prospecting, presenting, negotiating, sales planning/pipeline building and much more. Seating is limited, so I encourage anyone who is interested in being a part of this program to apply right away.”

In their landmark study, the Corporate Executive Board found that respondents attribute 53 percent of customer loyalty to the customer’s buying experience, said Hayden.

“Among the features of this program is a focus on practical management approaches and sales skills that can be immediately applied to improve an individual’s or a team’s performance,” said Hayden. “When you and your company invest in your sales representatives’ capacity to deliver an excellent customer experience, you will build a strong competitive advantage.”

Sessions are taught by experienced executives and sales experts. Instructors in the Fall 2017 program include John Boyens, sales productivity expert, business strategist and entrepreneur; Sheri Duchock, TalentSmart Master Certified Presenter in Emotional Intelligence; Jason Duncan, president and CEO, Energy Lighting Services, and president, H&D Capital Partners; Ryan Hawk, vice president of sales, Elsevier Clinical Solutions, and host, Learning Leader podcast; Dustin Hillis, co-founder, Southwestern Consulting, and author, Navigate: Selling The Way People Like To Buy; Stephen James, founder and executive director, Sage Hill Counseling; John Lowry, vice president for development and external affairs, Lipscomb University, and a recognized authority on negotiation through his experience as a lawyer, business consultant and negotiation coach; and John Roberson, CEO, Advent.

The professional certificate consists of eight sessions over four months. Individuals may register for the entire program or for individual sessions. Tuition is $3,500 for the full certificate program (16 sessions) and $600 per individual session.

The inaugural Driving Sales Performance program will run from Oct. 12, 2017, to Jan. 24, 2018. Each session begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m., and includes a continental breakfast and lunch. Sessions are held at Lipscomb University’s new Spark facility in downtown Nashville, located at the corner of 4th and Commerce streets. Convenient parking is available.
