Janel Shoun |

Well-known Nashville marketing entrepreneur Louis Upkins will present his first executive training based on his upcoming book Treat Me Like A Customer: Using Lessons from Work to Succeed in Life, on Tuesday, Jan. 19, at Lipscomb University’s School of Executive Education in the College of Business.

Upkins, a Franklin-based entrepreneur who has worked with Oprah Winfrey, Darrell Waltrip, Starbucks and Joel Osteen among many others, will present an interactive, fast-paced workshop focusing on becoming a more effective businessperson and a better spouse and parent.

Treat Me Like A Customer will be at 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 19, in the SunTrust Center for Collaborative Learning in Lipscomb’s Ezell Center. Cost is $400. To register for the Treat Me Like A Customer seminar, click here to register or call 615.966.5351.

In his book, to be released Jan. 4, 2010, by Zondervan, Upkins shares his secrets to success as a father, husband and businessperson, challenging readers to take their roles as a spouse or parent to a deeper, more fulfilling level by treating their loved ones like their prized customers.

“Could you imagine not smiling when greeting a customer? Snapping at him when he asks you something?” Upkins writes. “Of course not! … Is that so hard to do for your family?”

As a Brentwood-based entrepreneur, Upkins provided apparel lines and other merchandise for national clients such as Cracker Barrel, for mega-ministries such as T.D. Jakes and Paula White Ministries, and recording artists and celebrities.

Upkins takes the successful marketplace concepts and guidelines he’s learned working with hundreds of clients over the years and applies them to daily marital and family relationships, offering solutions to various issues such as regaining trust, developing a strategic family plan and balancing work and home life.

Upkins holds vast experience in risk-taking and out-of-the-box thinking, skills proven valuable for any job-hunter, employee or family member trying to navigate the business world in these rocky economic times.

Upkins is well-known locally for his marketing and as a member of the advisory boards of the Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, 100 Black Men of Middle Tennessee, Leadership Middle Tennessee and New Hope Academy (a school President Bush referred to as “a model school for the nation to follow” during a visit to Nashville).
