The Department of Art at Lipscomb University, partnering with Advent Displays and Designs, is proud to present Nashville’s First Annual Award for Excellence in Logo Design.

All Nashville graphic designers are asked to submit new logo designs created in the past 24 months by Nov. 8. The event is held in conjunction with Lipscomb University’s inaugural Presidential Lectureship for Art and Art History, featuring guest speaker Kimberly Elam on Monday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. in Shamblin Theatre.

Elam, head of the Graphic and Interactive Communication Department at Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Fla., will present a lecture on “Typographic Systems,” based on her book, Grid Systems: Principles of Organizing Type, and the winning logo design will be announced after the lecture.

Creative logos will be judged in the following categories:
  • Creative use of typography;
  • Best icon design;
  • People’s choice; and
  • Overall design winner.

The overall design winner will win the grand prize, a MacBook, and all other winners will receive iPod Nanos. This event is endorsed by the Nashville Chamber of Commerce, Create Magazine, Midtown Printing, Apple Computer and AIGA. All entries will be judged by a panel selected from these organizations.

Lipscomb University will host a reception at 6 p.m., Nov. 13, in Shamblin Theatre, where attendees will vote on the people’s choice award winner before hearing Elam’s lecture. Winners must be present to receive prizes, and all attendees will receive give-aways at the reception.

Participants can submit their logo designs and register for the competition on-line at www.nashvillelogodesign.com. Entries must be received by Wednesday, Nov. 8. For more information call 615.279.6282.
