More than 400 students to receive degrees at fall commencement Dec. 16

Lipscomb University will be hosting its annual fall commencement on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. in Allen Arena. During the ceremony more than 400 students are expected to receive their degrees. A reception for all graduates and their families will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Student Activities Center.
During the ceremony, 39 students will receive Doctorate of Education degrees, the highest number since the program awarded its first doctoral degrees in 2012. Nearly 260 students will be celebrated for earning graduate degrees and more than 150 students for earning bachelor’s degrees. Two students will also receive associate degrees. Among these graduates will also be the first recipients of the Master of Professional Studies degree, housed in the College of Professional Studies.
On Friday, Dec. 15, undergraduates and their families are invited to a reception from 3:30-4:30 p.m. of the Burton Health Sciences Center, first floor, followed by Baccalaureate at 5 p.m. in Collins Alumni Auditorium. Graduates are asked to wear their regalia but no caps, and to line up to proceed into the auditorium prior to the service. Family and friends are invited.
William L. Turner, distinguished professor of public service and community studies in the College of Leadership & Public Service and counselor to the president at Lipscomb University on matters of diversity and strategic community engagement, will give the traditional faculty charge. Lipscomb President L. Randolph Lowry will also give a charge to the graduates, and Savannah Rae Swanson, a member of the graduating class, will lead the singing of the alma mater.
