Higher education veteran Rhonda Minton was recently appointed director of alumni programs at Lipscomb University.

Minton will expand the university’s alumni relations efforts and implement new strategies for increasing alumni engagement. She is responsible for developing programs and events that enhance connectivity with the university’s more than 35,000 alumni worldwide.

“Rhonda brings a tremendous amount of experience working with alumni relations and development programs and has a good understanding of the mission and scope of Lipscomb University. We are very fortunate to have her lead this vital program for us,” said Bennie Harris, vice president for development and alumni relations.

Minton joined the Lipscomb University staff in July 2010 as associate director of annual giving/direct response. She brings more than 18 years of experience in higher education to the Office of Development & Alumni Relations (DAR).

“In alumni relations, we work on building relationships and keeping people connected to Lipscomb. The alumni network can be of tremendous value to all who are in it, and successful alumni are certainly a factor in the university’s success,” said Minton. “I’m excited about this opportunity to meet more Lipscomb alums and helping them celebrate and reinforce the value of their degree and their connection to the university.”

During the weeks and months ahead, Minton said she will be evaluating existing programs and adding others. She said this is an exciting time to be at Lipscomb.

“With increasing enrollment, expanding programs, new facilities coming online, its outreach to the local community and mission fields, embarking on the Lipscomb:Next campaign and producing graduates who are capable of making tremendous impact in their respective fields, this is an exciting time to be at Lipscomb. We have many reasons to be thankful at Lipscomb,” she said.

Minton came to Lipscomb after working in the alumni association and public affairs departments at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas, where her duties involved alumni membership and marketing outreach, alumni relations programming, media relations and legislative affairs. She also taught design in the university's communication department and served as an instructor in the SFA 101 Freshman Success program. She has received more than 15 awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) for excellence in alumni relations programming, marketing and communication and has presented sessions for CASE conferences and other professional alumni organizations.

Minton holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and master’s degree in communication and history from SFA. Prior to joining the SFA staff, she served as deputy director of public relations for a memorial foundation in Washington, D.C.
