In honor of Lipscomb University President L. Randolph Lowry, Mediate.com, the nation’s most visited dispute resolution web site, has donated two complete sets of video educational materials to the Lipscomb University’s Institute for Conflict Management (ICM).

Based in Eugene, Oregon, Mediate.com has over 5,000 articles and resources and attracts 12,000 daily visitors. Mediate.com serves as an online directory of professional mediators and a marketplace for training and academic opportunities.

Jim Melamed
The Mediate.com site was founded in1996 by CEO James C. Melamed. Resourceful Internet Solutions, Inc. (RIS) is the corporate entity. Lipscomb President Lowry joined the Mediate.com board in 1999 and served for nine years.

Mediate.com donated a DVD library of all dispute resolution courses Mediate.com offers as well the “Views from the Eye of the Storm” DVD library, a collection of 64 hour-long interviews with leading mediators from around the world. Combined, the Mediate.com DVD training library and interview collection sell for over $1,500.

The RIS/Mediate.com gift to Lipscomb honors Lowry’s long-standing service to Mediate.com, begun while he was still director of the nationally recognized Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution in California.

“We wanted to make a gift to Lipscomb, specifically to the Institute for Conflict Management in honor of Randy Lowry,” said CEO Melamed. “I have known Randy Lowry for over 25 years.  He has always had one of the most innovative minds and dynamic personalities in our field.  We have cherished having Randy on the Mediate.com board.  I am not sure we would have survived the “dot.com” crash without him.  With his and others’ service, Mediate.com has become the world’s leading mediation resource.”

Melamed delivered the gift personally to President Lowry and Institute Director Larry Bridgesmith when he came to Lipscomb to serve as faculty for the ICM’s family and divorce mediation training in December.

“We deeply appreciate this gift. Mediate.com is the recognized leader in mediation resources and these recordings are simply the best available for mediators who desire to improve their skills. ICM and its students will benefit from these tools for many years,” said Bridgesmith.

In addition to serving on the Mediate.com board of directors, Lowry has been recognized around the world as a leader in mediation education. He established his first dispute resolution program in 1986 while serving on the law school faculty at Pepperdine University.

He has served as visiting faculty at universities in Hong Kong, China, Australia and Italy. His consulting and training practice has included work for the legal community in The Netherlands, the introduction of mediation in India through a grant from the Asian Development Bank, training for judges in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as well as consultation with lawyers for Freshfields, an international law firm in Asia.
