McDonough to sign book on Nashville at Lipscomb University bookstore Saturday

Author James Lee McDonough will be signing copies of his book "Nashville: The Western Confederacy's Final Gamble" at the Lipscomb University Bookstore Sat., Feb. 5 from noon until 3 p.m. The bookstore is located on the campus, 3901 Granny White Pike, Nashville.

 Copies of the book will be available for purchase along with other of McDonough's works.

 McDonough, a 1956 Lipscomb graduate, spent 20 years on the faculty at Lipscomb and held the position of Justin Potter Distinguished Professor. He also taught Southern history at Pepperdine University and at Auburn University. He is the author of several award-winning books on the Civil War. Three of his books have been selections of the History Book Club, and "Chattanooga- A Death Grip on the Confederacy"  was the Editor's Choice for November 1984. This book was also the first winner of the Tennessee History Book Award, jointly awarded by the Tennessee Historical Commission and the Tennessee Library Association.

 McDonough has also been recipient of the Jefferson Davis Award and the Douglas Southall Freeman Award.  On the occasion of his retirement from Auburn, he was presented the "Commander's Award for Public Service" by the Department of the Army in recognition of "outstanding instruction in Military History" while serving as Professor of History at Auburn University. McDonough and his wife, Nancy, live in Lewisburg, Tenn. They have three children, all of whom attended Lipscomb.
