Mast named senior vice president of student affairs at Lipscomb University

Lipscomb University has appointed education veteran Dr. Brian Mast as senior vice president of student affairs.

Mast, who is currently serving as interim executive vice president at Lipscomb, has more than 25 years of experience in education spanning public and private K-12 and higher education.  

“Dr. Brian Mast has been an exceptional leader at Lipscomb University, and I am thrilled to have him step into this expanded role as senior vice president of student affairs,” said Lipscomb President Candice McQueen. “Brian has a deep passion for student success and a strong commitment to Lipscomb’s mission. His leadership over the past several months, particularly in student life, has demonstrated his ability to create an exceptional student experience that fosters academic, spiritual and personal growth. I look forward to the impact he will continue to make in this new role.”

Mast was appointed vice provost at Lipscomb in August 2023, where he served for one year before stepping into the interim executive vice president and interim leader over Student Life beginning this past August. In this new role, Mast will oversee student affairs, including all areas of Student Life, Bison One Stop and the many student success collaborations with Academics. In addition, Mast will continue to oversee Events Management while serving as a Staff Liaison for the President and a member of the Executive Leadership Team.

“I am honored to continue serving the Lipscomb community in this new capacity,” said Mast. “Lipscomb has played a significant role in shaping my life, and I am deeply committed to ensuring that every student has a meaningful and transformative experience here. I look forward to working with our students, faculty and staff to further strengthen our student support services and cultivate a campus environment where students flourish academically, socially and spiritually.”

Mast began his tenure at Lipscomb in 2012 when he was hired as senior director of student success to open the Coggin Family Academic Success Center and oversee retention efforts. He  also served as associate provost. He has led Lipscomb to numerous institutional retention records and record 4-, 5- and 6-year graduation rates.

In 2019, Mast was appointed president of Mount Dora Christian Academy & Children’s Home in Florida, where he served until he returned to Lipscomb as vice provost in 2023. Prior to his work at Lipscomb, Mast served in various teaching and administrative roles in Metro Nashville Public Schools for 15 years, most recently serving as the executive principal at Antioch High School.

The Bremen, Ohio native has a Bachelor of Science degree from Lipscomb University, where he was a member of the Bison baseball team. He has a Master of Education from Tennessee State University and an Ed.D. from Trevecca Nazarene University.  He will begin his work in this new role on Feb. 10.
