Jonathan Eckberg, 2004 Lipscomb graduate and assistant coach for the men’s and women’s track and cross-country teams, placed an impressive 13th in the eighth annual Country Music Marathon. He covered the 26 miles in 2:28:44.

“This year had a great field running,” he states. “I finished 13th overall. I was the top Davidson County runner to finish and the top Tennessean to finish. I was very happy with my race.”

The April 28th race was Eckberg’s third entry into the Country Music Marathon. The race starts in Centennial Park and runs through Nashville’s most scenic sights. Nearly 30,000 runners and walkers from around the world competed in the marathon and half-marathon combined.

Eckberg runs 120-plus miles per week and competes in a number of marathon distance races. “The next marathon I compete in will be in Chicago in the fall. That’s the one I really focus on. I run in two marathons a year. The Country Music Marathon is a great training opportunity for me.”

Eckberg transferred to Lipscomb University in the fall of 2002 to finish his degree in psychology and philosophy. During his two years at Lipscomb, he competed in track and cross-country. He was the top performer for the Bisons, winning the Most Valuable Runner award both seasons.
