Lipscomb's culinary team reigns champion of Copper Chef

 |

Lipscomb's culinary team, led by executive chef Michael Sullivan, took home the Copper Chef champion title once again after a cook off on Belmont's turf. This marks the third consecutive win for Lipscomb of only three competitions.

The “Copper Chef Competition” is similar in format to the Iron Chef competitions. Each chef is given a “pantry” of items with which to work, including several “mystery ingredients” that must be included in each dish but which isn’t revealed until the beginning of the competition, said Rick Graham, general manager of Lipscomb Dining Services.

Dishes are taken anonymously to a panel of judges, who choose the winner.

This year's competition pit Lipscomb’s culinary team against Belmont’s culinary team, led by executive chef Kevin Dorr. The winner takes home the prize trophy, a huge piece of the actual Belmont Boulevard road with a chef whisk attached and a small plaque indicating the winners.

“We are glad to be able to participate in this competition between Lipscomb and Belmont. We have a great working relationship with Belmont and this competition is all about having fun. We want the students to get excited about the game,” Graham said.

Food service at both schools is managed by Sodexho, which conducts copper chef competitions among its affiliated schools in Tennessee and Arkansas.
