Lipscomb University students to host Hunger Banquet to raise money for well in Ethiopia, Apr 6

 |

Lipscomb University's Students for International Peace and Justice is hosting a Hunger Banquet April 6 in Allen Arena on the university's campus, 3901 Granny White Pike. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with dinner served at 6:30 p.m. The event is open to the public, and everyone is invited to attend.

Following the dinner, Randy Steger, president of Healing Hands International will speak. Tickets are $10 each. To reserve a ticket, email Hungerbanquet [at] hotmail.com. Tickets can be picked up at will call with all proceeds going to fund the construction of a well in Ethiopia.

During the Hunger Banquet, guests will enjoy cultural cuisine and music. The goal for the evening is to raise $2,500 in association with Healing Hands International's Project Pure.

"Lack of clean water is a serious issue," Steger said. "The World Health Organization estimates that more than 80 percent of all disease in the Third World is directly related to contaminated water."

Project Pure's purpose is to supply Third World Countries with the clean water they need.

Through carwashes and other various fundraisers, the students intend to raise awareness of this issue and money for the well. The students of the club have taken on this project because of the great benefits just one well will reap on every day life for an Ethiopian. Clean water will aid in everyday life through cooking, cleaning, and healthcare.

"We are so excited about this project," said Brad Ellis, president of Students for International Peace and Justice. "This is something that everyone in the club is devoted to, and we really hope to reach our goal through this dinner. The dinner itself is going to be such an amazing experience and participants will leave more informed of this world issue."
