Following the success of “The Wingfeather Saga,” a series of four fantasy-adventure novels, and a Kickstarter campaign, Nashville author and singer-songwriter Andrew Peterson, along with a talented team of artists, is bringing his acclaimed series to life as an animated short film that will screen at Lipscomb University on Friday, Nov. 3 in Lipscomb’s Shamblin Theatre.

Hosted by Lipscomb University’s Department of Animation and Department of Cinematic Arts, the event will also feature a panel discussion with the team that worked on the books and series including producer J. Chris Wall (VeggieTales); director Tom Owens (Head of Story and How To Train Your Dragon 2); animation director and CG supervisor Keith Lango (Valve Corporation and Portal 2); production designer Nicholas Kole; composer Kurt Heinecke (VeggieTales); and Don Culwell of Magnetic Dreams.

During the event, Andrews, along with Sarah Wood, Lincoln Mick, and Isaac Horn of The Arcadian Wild and a few surprise guests will host the evening’s music.

“We are so excited to welcome the greater Nashville community to an incredible evening of some of Nashville's most engaging storytellers as they begin to unveil the next chapter in the life of ‘The Wingfeather Saga,’” said Scott Baker, marketing and outreach coordinator in Lipscomb’s George Shinn College of Entertainment & the Arts. “Andrew Peterson is an extremely talented individual and we are honored to get to host the short film that will eventually be turned into a full feature film.”

Known as one of Nashville’s busiest polymaths, Peterson is a musician; founder of The Rabbit Room, which is a community of artists, authors and songwriters who have an interest in faith, fellowship and storytelling; and a successful author. Peterson plans to turn the first book of The Wingfeather Saga into a full feature film and other three books into three seasons of episodes.

The Wingfeather Saga blends the whimsy and heart of “The Princess Bride” with the vastness and peril of “The Lord of the Rings.” The Wingfeather is about the three Igiby children: Janner, Kalmar and Leeli. They children live in a world called Aerwiar, which is exactly like our world–except they don’t have electricity or gunpowder, and there are all sorts of creepy animals, like sea dragons and toothy cows. Janner, the eldest, is about to discover that the ordinary little town where they live is anything but ordinary. In fact, he and his family are at the center of a great mystery that will change their lives forever. Click here to watch the trailer.

The Wingfeather Saga has been awarded the Christy Award for Young Adult Fiction, the Clive Staples Award and the World Magazine Children’s Book of the Year, as well as being regular bestsellers on Amazon. Peterson plans to turn the first book into a feature film and other three into three seasons of episodes.
