Lipscomb University to Present Exhibition of Halston Fashions

 |

Lipscomb University will present an exhibition of Halston fashions on April 4 in Shamblin Theater at 3901 Granny White Pike, Nashville.

This exhibit includes fashions designed by Halston for people such as Elizabeth Taylor, Jacqueline Kennedy O’Nassis, Lucille Ball, Barbara Walters and others. It will showcase the design process, beginning with sketches all the way to the finished product of dresses, suits and pant suits.

This collection was given to Lipscomb last year by Borghese Inc. in New York. It is valued at over $40,000.

"Halston’s work exemplifies high fashion of the ‘70’s and ‘80’s," said Kathy Bates, assistant professor in Family and Consumer Sciences at Lipscomb University.

Students at Lipscomb use the examples given by Halston in his work as they prepare to enter the design world themselves.

"This collection benefits fashion students by seeing the design process from start to finish and having hands-on experience with an iconic fashion designer is priceless," says Elizabeth Hendrickson, a senior majoring in Fashion Design.

"We are very excited to share this collection with people in Nashville. They will enjoy seeing some of the clothes that people like Barbara Walters have worn," says Hendrickson.

Doors open at 7 p.m. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Many examples of Halston’s work, from his sketches to the finished product will be on display. There will be a fashion show modeling some of the clothes. The show is free and open to the public.

"This show will give anybody a good idea of the way the fashion business works," says Bates.
