Lipscomb University and Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) have launched a new partnership to expand opportunities for leadership education in public service. The collaboration provides MTSU graduates with a direct and affordable pathway to pursue advanced study through Lipscomb’s Master of Public Administration (MPA) program — including a 50% tuition discount for eligible students.

Through the agreement, undergraduate students who graduate with a major or minor from MTSU’s Department of Political Science and Global Affairs with a minimum 3.0 GPA will be eligible for admission to Lipscomb’s MPA program and a 50% tuition discount. The discount applies exclusively to tuition and may not be combined with other institutional aid or fee waivers.

“This partnership allows us to extend opportunities to more emerging leaders across Tennessee who are eager to make a difference through public service,” said Laura Encalade, executive director of Lipscomb’s School of Public Policy. “Our MPA program is intentionally designed to support early-career and aspiring leaders by giving them practical skills, professional mentorship and access to a strong network of public and nonprofit professionals. We want students from across the state to not only earn a graduate degree, but to be fully prepared to lead in the workforce.”

Housed within Lipscomb’s College of Leadership and Public Service, the Master of Public Administration program is recognized as a leading pathway for those preparing for careers in government and nonprofit organizations. The 15-month, weekend-format program allows students to maintain full-time employment or internships while earning their degree. Coursework emphasizes leadership development, data analysis, and policy development.. Students also receive individualized mentoring from experienced leaders working in state and local government or nonprofit sectors.

“I am thrilled that this partnership gives our MTSU Political & Global Affairs students a fantastic opportunity to be part of Lipscomb’s emerging MPA program,” said Amy L. Atchison, chair and professor in MTSU’s Department of Political and Global Affairs.

Encalade said the partnership with MTSU aligns with Lipscomb’s broader goal of cultivating servant leaders across Tennessee who are equipped to make a lasting impact.

“By creating these kinds of partnerships, we are strengthening the pipeline of public service professionals who can lead with integrity and effectiveness in communities throughout our state,” she said.
