Lipscomb University will host a sports nutrition conference on April 1 and 2 featuring national experts Dan Benardot, Ph.D. and Nancy Clark.

The conference will be held at Lipscomb's Collins Alumni Auditorium, 3901 Granny White Pike, Nashville, Tenn. 37204. Both sessions are free and open to the public.

Benardot will present "Sports Nutrition: What Works & What Doesn''t for Optimal Performance," on April 1 at 4 p.m. This presentation will include topics such as: Recommended eating and hydration strategies, Ideas for achieving optimal energy and Advantages of maintaining fluid and energy balance.

Clark will present "Food, Weight and Exercise," on April 2 at 7 p.m. Her presentation will include topics such as: Gender differences with exercise and weight reduction, Practical food tips to balance protein and fat and How to tame the cookie monster.

"This conference is very important because it will address the different nutritional needs for a training diet as well as the recreational exerciser. It will demonstrate that nutrition is not just about dietetic exchanges, but the way you live your life," says Autumn Marshall Ph.D., Assistant Professor for the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at Lipscomb University.

"Dr. Benardot and Ms. Clark are two of the leading sports nutrition authorities in the country. They will provide vital and useful information for the athlete and the casual exerciser," Marshall says.

Benardot is a Registered and Licensed (Georgia) Dietitian. He served as the team nutritionist for USA Gymnastics during the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games. He served on the U.S. Figure Skating Sports Medicine Society and was elected on the nomination committee of the Sports, Cardiovascular, and Fitness practice group of the American Dietetic Association.

Clark is a registered dietitian who specializes in nutrition for exercise and wellness and the nutritional management of eating disorders. She is director of Nutrition services at SportsMedicine Associates in Boston. She has had clients such as members of the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Celtics, and many other elite and Olympic athletes from a variety of sports.
