Lipscomb University to host the Eating Disorders Coalition of Tennessee's Annual Forum, April 7-8

Lipscomb University will host the 3rd Annual Forum of the Eating Disorders Coalition of Tennessee (EDCT) for health professionals, educators and families on April 7-8 in the Axel Swang Center for Business Administration on the university's campus, 3901 Granny White Pike, Nashville, Tenn. Admission for faculty, staff and students is free with a Lipscomb ID, and the conference is open to the public with registration required for all.

 

This year's forum, entitled "Understanding the Many Faces of Eating Disorders" will begin Friday at 7 p.m. in Swang 108 with "Selling Insecurities: How food Advertisements Influence Our Eating" featuring speaker Karin Kratina, Ph.D., RD.

 

Saturday's activities will begin at 8 a.m. and will include two different tracks for attendees, one for professionals and one for members of the community. Saturday's keynote addresses by Pauline Powers, M.D. will be on the topics "Eating Disorders: Progress and Problems" for professionals and on "Eating Disorders: A Survival Guide. Helping without Harming" for community members. Breakout sessions will be coordinated by the following presenters: Diane Keddy, M.S., R.D., F.A.E.D., Ted Weltzin, M.D., Charles Ihrig, Ph.D., Kim McCallum, M.D., Ovidio Bermudez, M.D., Gayle Brooks, Ph.D. and Carolyn Ross, M.D., M.P.H. These sessions will focus on mid-life weight gain and eating disorders, compulsive exercise/exercise resistance, eating disorders in males, the binge eating disorder, OCD and OCPD in patients with eating disorders, working with children and adolescents, eating disorders among African American women and integrative approaches for treating eating disorders and co-morbid concerns.

 

The cost of the Forum is $150 for EDCT members, $175 for non-members.  A certificate of participation reflecting the number of training hours will be provided to all attendees.

 

The Eating Disorders Coalition of Tennessee is a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to a positive body image and the coordinated education and prevention of eating disorders.  The mission of the EDCT is to offer hope, help and support to all who are impacted by disordered eating.  Through programs geared towards adolescents, young adults, families, school and health professionals, the EDCT raises awareness about the impact of dieting and eating disorders and provides support for families struggling with this devastating disease.
