Lipscomb University graduates close to 250 in Dec. 20 ceremony in Allen Arena

Lipscomb University’s fall commencement will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, in Allen Arena, on the Lipscomb campus located off of Granny White Pike in Nashville.

 

Close to 250 graduates expected to participate in the ceremony will be treated to the Provost’s Breakfast that morning. The President’s Reception for the 128 master’s graduates will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the Paul Rogers Boardroom in the Ezell Center, and the President’s Reception for the 150 bachelor’s graduates will be held immediately after the ceremony in the Student Activity Center.

During the ceremony Michael Shane Neal (’91) will be recognized as the Young Alumnus of the Year. Neal is an award-winning portrait artist in Nashville whose portrait of Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor will hang in the Arizona State University Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law. His portrait of Senator Arthur Vandenberg hangs in the Senate Reception Room of the United States Capitol, and his portrait of Senator Arlen Specter hangs in the Yale Law School alumni reading room.

The Young Alumnus of the Year is a new award at Lipscomb this year to recognize established and future leaders among Lipscomb’s young alumni.

Lipscomb’s December 2008 commencement ceremony will include:

  • The university’s first three graduates in the Master of Science in Psychology;
  • The first 3 graduates to earn a Master of Arts in Conflict Management:
  • 69 Bachelors of Science;
  • 52 Bachelors of Arts;
  • Six Bachelors of Business Administration;
  • One Bachelor of Music in Music Education;
  • 28 master’s degrees in business fields;
  • 74 master’s degrees in education fields; and
  • 11 master’s degrees in Biblical and religion fields.

Since January 2007, Lipscomb has added six graduate programs to its roster, debuted institutes for law, justice and society and sustainable practice, established a campus-wide service learning program and achieved precandidate status for the College of Pharmacy. The university has also constructed almost $21 million in green facilities, which opened for use in fall 2008.

Students at Lipscomb University can earn a bachelor’s degree in 90 fields of undergraduate study, several pre-professional programs and an accelerated adult degree program for those who wish to complete their undergraduate degrees in the evening. Lipscomb also offers 13 graduate degrees in 27 fields of study, including a doctorate degree in pharmacy.
