Lipscomb University and Yale tied for top grade point honors among men’s 2008 NCAA Division I All-Academic Track and Field teams for the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA)

A total of 48 Division I programs made up the men’s 2008 All-Academic Teams.

"It is an amazing honor for the men's and women's track & field teams,” said Lipscomb track and cross country coach Bill Taylor. “I am extremely proud of them and pleased that we have set this tone in my first year at Lipscomb University.

“It is an indication of the quality of our student-athletes and our desire to excel in all areas.  This is the true spirit of what being an NCAA division I student-athlete is all about.  As we continue to improve dramatically athletically, I expect we will also increase our academic achievements as well.  It is a very exciting time for the men's and women's cross country and track & field programs at Lipscomb."

Lipscomb University and Yale University led all institutions with 3.320 team cumulative GPAs, followed by Dartmouth College with a 3.280 team GPA. Weber State achieved the fourth-highest team GPA with 3.260.

The Big 12 Conference and the Ivy League led all conferences with five teams selected as All-Academic Teams for 2008, followed by the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Big East Conference, the Big Sky Conference, the Summit League, and the Western Athletic Conference with three team selections each.

To be nominated, the team must carry a minimum 3.000 team cumulative grade-point average.
