Lipscomb students and employees took time off to serve the community

 |

For the 3rd consecutive year, students and employees of Lipscomb University joined together for Spring Service Day on Friday, April 15. The service activities kicked off during chapel at 10 a.m. Then pre-selected groups went all over Nashville ready to serve their community.

"Service Day began as a way to enhance the in-class Christian curriculum at Lipscomb with real-life applications of living like Christ," said Kristina Hagerty, coordinator of Service Day. "It provides the opportunity for Lipscomb students and employees to join together and show the love of Christ to neighbors in Middle Tennessee by being available to paint buildings, organize humanitarian materials for shipment, visit with the elderly and much more.

This year about 650 students and employees volunteered to participate in the service activities.  This number is up from about 120 who volunteered the first year.

"My goal is that Service Day will start a trend," said Hagerty.  "I want to see students constantly living like Christ by serving others, and I believe that trend has started. Since the first Service Day, the Lipscomb community has begun to become much more focused on service through campus ministries, service clubs and an obvious desire in students and employees to use the talents and abilities God has given to serve those in need."

This year, Service Day participants went to 27 different sites.
