Lipscomb students and employees assist Congressman Jim Cooper's office in hurricane relief effort

 |

This Saturday, September 15, students and employees from Lipscomb University will assist Congressman Jim Cooper's office in an effort to provide relief to people displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

Lipscomb has served as a processing point to store the materials already acquired by the Congressman's office. Volunteers will package and load those materials onto pallets Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m.  D.F. Chase is providing a forklift and Big G Express Trucking Company out of Shelbyville will provide a truck and a driver.  The supplies will be shipped to a shelter in New Iberia, Louisiana, which is 90 miles west of New Orleans.

The partnership between Lipscomb and the Congressman's office began during conversations between Lipscomb officials and representatives from the Congressman's office about how Lipscomb can help them serve this district.   That interest led to Lipscomb partnering with the Congressman's office in this relief effort.
