Lipscomb revs up for Battle of the Boulevard, Homecoming this weekend

Andrew Glass |

Lipscomb University students, faculty, fans, alumni, and the community are invited to attend this year’s Homecoming festivities and classic basketball game rivalry, the Battle of the Boulevard this weekend. Coming off a win over Belmont University in February 2007, the Lipscomb fans are hungry for more victory. Campus events this weekend include:

At last year's Running of the Bison students braved temperatures below 20 degrees, warmed by Lipscomb spirit alone. This year the forecast is for a balmy 54 degrees.
A Charity Card Tournament
(for students only)
Thursday, Jan. 10, 6 p.m. in McQuiddy Gym

The entry fee is $5 per student and the proceeds will go to benefit Habitat for Humanity.

Running of the Bison
(for students only)
Friday, Jan. 11, 10:30 p.m., meet in the Bison Square

More than 300 students will meet to participate in the Running of the Bison. Dressed in purple and gold, the students will run (and scream heartily) through the neighborhood near campus. The route will include Granny White Pike, Caldwell Lane, Leland Lane and Maplehurst.

Students have been asked to bring noisemakers and various musical instruments, so if Lipscomb’s neighbors hear a ruckus around 10:30 p.m., it’s just the Running of the Bison.

Battle of the Boulevard:
Lipscomb vs. Belmont

Saturday, Jan. 12
(men's) 3 p.m., Allen Arena
(women's) 5:30 p.m., Allen Arena

The Lipscomb Bisons have won four of nine games against Belmont since the universities joined the NCAA. The Bisons defeated their arch-rival 70-60 on Feb. 9, 2007, at home, setting up high expectations for the Bruins second consecutive visit to Allen Arena. The Lady Bisons will play the Lady Bruins at 5:30 p.m., following the men’s game. The games are sold out; only a limited number of standing room tickets are available before the 3 p.m. game.

10 a.m.-9 p.m.
Paul Rogers Boardroom
Ezell Center

Architecture, landscapes, animals and the people of nations around the world will all be represented in the show. This is the first time the Ezells have publicly displayed their photos, shot over a lifetime of traveling.

Alumni Reception and
Homecoming Court

There will be an alumni reception in McQuiddy Gym between the men and women’s games and Lipscomb’s Homecoming Queen will be crowned at half-time of the men's game.
