Lipscomb presents acclaimed Chamber Orchestra Kremlin on March 10

Janel Shoun |

The Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, one of Russia's leading ensembles, will present a program of music written for the season of Lent Monday, March 10, as part of Lipscomb University’s Artist Series.

Founded in 1991, the orchestra has earned national and international recognition under the creative baton of its founder and music director Misha Rachlevsky. Over the years, the ensemble has developed an award-winning catalog of more than twenty recordings, a devoted audience in its home base of Moscow and an increasing demand for performances internationally.

The chamber orchestra, comprised of some of Russia’s finest young string players, will perform at 8 p.m., March 10, in Lipscomb’s Ward Performance Hall.

The ensemble will perform Alan Hovhaness’ Psalm and Fugue, Op. 40; Arvo Part’s (1988, revision 1990); Antoine Arensky’s Variations on a theme by Tchaikovsky, Op. 35a (1894); and Joseph Haydn’s The Seven Last Words of Christ (1785).

Chamber Orchestra Kremlin has released 16 CDs on Swiss label Claves, garnering numerous international reviews and awards such as “Diapason d’Or” in France and the New York Times “Critics Choice.”

“It was clear from the beginning that this is no rank-and-file string orchestra,” wrote the Washington Post of the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin.

“No less than five encores were called for and played willingly and received with delight. What led up to this end was an impressive display of musicianship,” wrote the Los Angeles Times.

Tickets cost $15 for adults and $7 for non-Lipscomb students and can be purchased through Ticketmaster. Call 615.966.5929 for more information on the performance.
