Lipscomb University announced today that it has signed on with e2Campus, a service of Omnilert LLC, the developer of one of the leading selective mass notification systems in the nation, to provide a text message notification system for students, faculty and staff.

LU Alert, Sign up hereThe new LU ALERT text messaging system will allow all members of the Lipscomb University campus community to stay informed in the event of an emergency or weather-related closure.

Beginning today the university has strongly advised all students, faculty and staff to register with e2Campus, a voluntary service that notifies users via text message, a designated e-mail address, PDA or pager.

The e2Campus system will add another immediate mechanism to the existing methods that Lipscomb uses to alert the campus community to an emergency situation, said Kathy Hargis, director of risk management.

“With a large percentage of Lipscomb students commuting to campus, our research shows that text messaging is probably the most efficient way to reach every student,” Hargis said.

The system will be used for emergencies only and will not be used to distribute advertising or unsolicited content. LU ALERT subscribers will pay no fees beyond their own cell phone provider charges for the service.
