Lipscomb University is one of the top universities in the nation for transfer students for the ninth consecutive year as it is one of 251 institutions named to the 2025 Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Honor Roll.
Phi Theta Kappa’s Transfer Honor Roll recognizes excellence and success in community college transfer pathway development among four-year colleges and universities. The Transfer Honor Roll is determined by 40 key metrics related to the support and success of transfer students, including college cost, financial aid, campus life for transfers, admission practices and bachelor’s degree completion.

“I am thrilled that Lipscomb University is featured on Phi Theta Kappa's Transfer Honor Roll for the ninth consecutive year,” said Autumn Hooten, assistant director of admission, transfer admission. “Lipscomb University is an amazing university for transfer students who are looking for a supportive and collaborative community, hands-on experience that will prepare them for a career, and a Christ-Centered education that allows students to flourish both academically and spiritually. Lipscomb values the previous work, life and college experience that transfer students bring to Lipscomb's campus, and these students will be pleased to find a plethora of resources and opportunities.”
Hooten said these resources and opportunities include transfer students can rush for a social club in their first semester, those living on campus may find themselves placed on a transfer hall and they have immediate access to Lipscomb’s Career Development Center to help them prepare for internships and a career after Lipscomb. Students who transfer to Lipscomb can transfer up to 63 semester credits from a community college and they will have a dedicated transfer admission counselor who will help them through the application process.

“We are also very proud to be one of the first universities officially partnered with Phi Theta Kappa to offer Direct Admission to transfer students who are members of PTK,” she said.
During the Spring 2025 semester, Lipscomb University made stops at Nashville State, Vol State, and Columbia State community colleges during Lipscomb's Be A Bison Tour. On each community college campus, many representatives from both colleges gathered to discuss collaboration between Lipscomb and that community college. Hooten said Lipscomb is excited to continue building stronger partnerships with these institutions to continue to improve the transfer process for students.
“Being on the Transfer Honor Roll for nine consecutive years is such a huge accomplishment. This honor shows that Lipscomb University welcomes each transfer student with open arms,” continued Hooten. “We are always looking for ways to continue to improve the entire application and enrollment process, especially with transfer students at the forefront of the conversation.”
Lipscomb offers five academic scholarships to transfer students — the Lipscomb Pathways Scholarship, the Community College Transfer Scholarship, the Phi Theta Kappa and National Society of Leadership Scholarships, the Transfer Trustee Scholarship and the Lipscomb Noyce Scholars Program. Simon Wadlington, a May 2025 Lipscomb graduate, didn’t expect to land in Nashville for college, but a scholarship opportunity changed everything.
The Lexington, Kentucky, native transferred to Lipscomb University as a sophomore and found not only a new home, but a deeper sense of calling and purpose.
“I transferred here because of an unexpected scholarship opportunity that enabled me to come and study,” Wadlington explained. “Lipscomb was a school I heard about frequently growing up, but I never knew its impact until I came here as a sophomore.”
Now, with a Bachelor of Arts in pastoral leadership and a concentration in Business as Mission in hand, Wadlington serves as student minister at College Hills Church of Christ and is pursuing a Master of Divinity degree.
“Lipscomb University has changed my life,” said Wadlington. “It has grown me and challenged me. My professors have deeply influenced me through not only their knowledge, but also their humble posture. They are very relationally oriented, and that has made all the difference.”
