Lipscomb University has been named the No. 2 Christian university in the South by Christian Universities Online.
Lipscomb is one of 25 institutions included in the “Best Christian Colleges and Universities in the South 2017.” Lipscomb ranked higher in the south than John Brown University, Asbury University, Liberty University, Anderson University, Harding University and Palm Beach Atlantic University. Union University in Jackson, Tennessee, was ranked first. (Click here to see the entire list.)
Christian Universities Online said the list highlights schools that are the “best of the best when it comes to overall quality, affordability and student satisfaction.”
“In compiling this list of the best Christian colleges and universities by region, we hope to offer both parents and students a valuable resource which will help them in determining the best school which will meet their individual needs and goals,” the organization said in a release about the ranking.
Institutions that are members or member eligible of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities were considered for the ranking. Christian Universities Online researchers collected publicly available data for these schools in categories of faculty-to-student ratio, percent of full-time beginning undergraduates receiving grant or scholarship aid, selectivity, overall retention rate and overall graduation rate. Each category received equal weight in calculating the final ranking.
Last fall, Lipscomb was named one of the South’s most innovative schools by U.S. News and World Report’s “2016 America’s Best Colleges” guidebook. With an overall ranking of 18 in the Regional Universities-South category, Lipscomb was also named one of the best colleges in the region for veterans and was named one of the top “A+ Schools for B Students.”
Lipscomb was one of nine universities in the South nominated by its peers in a new U.S. News category included in the 2016 rankings—Most Innovative Schools. College administrators were surveyed in spring 2015 were asked to name the institutions they think are the most innovative. College presidents, provosts and admissions officials were asked to nominate up to 10 colleges or universities in their ranking category that are making the most innovative changes in the areas of faculty, student life, campus life, facilities or technology. Other institutions on this list include Elon University, Belmont University, Embry-Riddle University and James Madison University.
