Lipscomb University has once again been honored as a College of Distinction

Lipscomb is among about 370 universities across the country named a College of Distinction for the 2023-2024 academic year, marking its commitment to providing a high-quality undergraduate education that focuses on hands-on learning, strong student-teacher relationships, a vibrant campus life and successful outcomes. Other institutions receiving this designation include Georgia Institute of Technology, the University of Louisville, Wheaton College, Seton Hall University, Wake Forest University, Gonzaga University and the College of William & Mary among others.

Colleges of Distinction’s selection process comprises a sequence of in-depth research and detailed interviews with the schools, accepting only those that adhere to the Four Distinctions: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community, and Successful Outcomes. As a College of Distinction, Lipscomb has shown excellence in each of these areas, providing its students with a well-rounded, practical education that prepares them for successful careers and lives.

“We believe that engaged students are successful students,” said Tyson Schritter, chief operating officer at Colleges of Distinction.” And Lipscomb University’s dedication to experiential learning shows us that each of its students has the opportunity to play an active role in their education.” To be named a College of Distinction, Schritter says Lipscomb demonstrated excellence in undergraduate education in such factors as student engagement, teaching excellence, outcomes-based learning, and community involvement. This evaluation process differs from those of popular college rankings publications, whose formulas grade institutions based on things like faculty salaries, endowment size, and peer opinion.

”We don’t rank our schools,” said Schritter. “Every student has individual needs and flourishes in a specific environment. We prefer to focus on the innovative ways that colleges all around the country are providing an enriching undergraduate experience.” Lipscomb University's inclusion as a College of Distinction is a testament to the way it caters to its own students’ potential and goals, helping them achieve success in unique ways that cannot be ranked against others.

In addition to the overall institutional honor, Lipscomb was also recognized as a College of Distinction in the areas of business, education, engineering, nursing and career development. It was also named a Tennessee College of Distinction.

Colleges of Distinction is a nationally recognized, web-based guide for high school juniors and seniors who are in the college search process. Colleges and universities are nominated for participation by high school counselors, and then evaluated using qualitative and quantitative research. From these nominations, Colleges of Distinction picked a selection of top schools that are “well equipped to provide a personalized education catered to students’ interests” according to a release by the organization.

This is the latest national recognition Lipscomb University has received in recent months. In the fall, Lipscomb was ranked the #12 Best Christian College in the 2024 Niche Ranking. This year’s ranking evaluated 333 Christian colleges and universities across the country and is based on a rigorous analysis of key statistics and student reviews using data from the U.S. Department of Education. In addition to being ranked one of the top Christian colleges in the country, Lipscomb also received several other top rankings in a variety of categories in the 2024 report. Other key rankings include: #1 Best Colleges for Business in Tennessee, #2 Best Christian College in Tennessee, #2 Best College in the Nashville Area, #3 Best Colleges for Accounting and Finance in Tennessee, #3 Best College in Tennessee, #3 Top Private University in Tennessee, #3 Best Colleges for Biology in Tennessee and #4 Best Colleges for Student Athletes in Tennessee.
